Ward Vermeer

PhD Student

I completed my bachelor’s degree in Chemical Product Innovation at Avans University of Applied Sciences. During this time, I conducted an internship in the group of Prof. Xavier Companyó at the University of Barcelona, where I worked on organocatalytic asymmetric allylic benzylborylation. I completed my bachelor thesis in the group of Prof. René Janssen at Eindhoven University of Technology, focusing on the synthesis of redox‑active molecules for redox flow batteries.
Afterward, I pursued a master’s degree in Synthesis, Catalysis, and Molecular Design at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili, combined with a Master Fellowship at the ICIQ under the supervision of Prof. Arjan Kleij and Prof. José Berrocal, where I developed azobenzene‑derived cyclic carbonate monomers for photo‑responsive polymers.
I am now pursuing my PhD under the supervision of Associate Professor Ghislaine Vantomme, focusing on the development of a closed‑loop platform for the formulation of supramolecular materials and systems.
